Overview

Situated in the northwest Yunnan Hengduan Mountains on the southern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the Shangri-La Scenic Region consists of Diqing Prefecture, Nujiang Prefecture, and some area of Lijiang and Dali Prefectures, covers a total area of over 3,500 square kilometers. It is the one of the largest and the most promising scenic region in China, with the most wonderful sights, the most mysterious and richest ethic cultures.

Within the scenic region there are magnificent sights such as three parallelly flowing river, the world-famous gorge, the birthplace of Dongba culture, and many other wonderful scenes. There are also a national nature reserve, three provincial reserves, and a historic and cultural relic under national protection. "Shangri-La", which people have sought for tens of years, is located right here. At present most sights open to tourists are mainly within Diqing Prefecture, which is composed of three counties, Zhongdian, Weixi and Deqin, with its capital in Zhongxin Town in Zhongdian County. Zhongdian County, 709 kilometre away from Kunming, is located in the place bordering three provinces ( Yunnan, Tibet and Sichuan), and is the political, economic and cultural centre of Diqing Tibet Autonomous Prefecture

Itinerary Detail

Day 01 Kathmandu (1,300m) Lhasa (3,650m):
Fly to Lhasa crossing over the highest Himalayan ranges of the world. Transfer and check-in to your hotel. Rest for climate adaptation.

Day 02, 03 In Lhasa:
Two full day sight-seeing tour to Lhasa including Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Bazar, Potala Palace, Drepung & Sera Monastries Overnight at Hotel.

Day 04 Lhasa - Xigatze(3,900m): 280 km
Scenic drive to Xigatze to the west of Lhasa through the northern road. The drive is scenic as the road drives along the valley made by Brahmaputra River. Overnight at hotel.

Day 05- Xigatze Gyantse(3,950m): 90 km
Morning sight seeing to the Panchen Lama's Tashilhumpu Monastry, Drive to GYANTSE and visit to theKumbum Stupa & Phalkhor Monastry. Overnight at hotel.

Day 06- Gyantse - Tsedang(3,400m):29 km
Full day picturesque drive crossing over Karola (5,010m), Kambala (4,794 m), and colorful Yambdrok Lake. Continue drive along the Tibetan lifeline river Bramha Putra on to Tsedang. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 07- Tsedang Samye- Tsedang: 140 km
Early morning drive to put-in-point by the side of the Bramh Putra River and cross the river by a local made motor boat . Continue a short (30 min) drive by a truck to Samye Monastery explore Samye and drive back to Tsedang. Late afternoon, visit Yumbulkhang & also Thandruk Monastery. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 08- Tseding Kathmandu:
Early morning drive 2 hrs to airport for departure flight to Kathmandu or to your onward destination.
