               Dudhapokhari Trek

Recently introduced trail for the foreigners; the Dudhpokhari (Milky Lake) situated on the border of Lamgung, Manang and Kaski districts of Nepal is at an altitude of around (5300m) above the sea level.  Dudhpokhari is among the most beautiful destination of the world where tourist has hardly ever trekked. Peoples outside Nepal rarely know Dudhpokhari; those who heard about Dudhpokhari surely do not know about this place and its beauty.  Dudh Pokhari rich in Culture, Nature, and has a good geographical importance and other attractions like snow peaked mountain and natural beauties. Khaling Rais who have their own language are dominant class of this area; besides Gurung communities are also in existence.According to legends, some three thousand years ago the Tamu community now knows as Gurung entered this area through Namun Bhanjyang from Tibet & settled there. Tamu community has their own king in the ancient days whose palace can be seen until now; therefore, this place is also known as Tamuwan.In the religious way, there is a strong belief that if you take a bath in this Dudhpokhari (Milky Lake) three times then all your sins committed in this lifetime get purified. During the Janai Purnima (Sacred Thread Ceremony)  thousands of pilgrimage and visitors through this place for holy worship. Hindus worship this place as a site for Holy Pilgrimage and a lot of devotees take this place as the gateway to heaven. Thus the trek to this place is experience of Culture, Nature, remote villages, people as well as it has a good geographical importance and other attractions.

Short Itinerary

Day 1:  Arrival at Tribhuban International Airport (T.I.A.) and pick up by our airport representative and transfer to the Hotel.
Day 2: Drive to Besishar and then Kapoor Gaon, walk to Ghale gaon(2016 m.)
Day 3: Ghlegaon to Rabrachu(3100m) Over night at tented camp.
Day 4: Rabrachu to Thorju. (4500m.) Over Night at tented camp.
Day 5: Viewing the Mt. Manaslu next to you.  Exploring Many scenes around Thorju.
Day 6: Early in the morning trek to dudha pokhari (5300m.) viewing the dudha pokhari Lake and pilgrims, see the snow caped mountain just next to the Thorju & competition of many Gurung athletics and culture dances. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 7: Adventure walk for Namun la pass (5560m.) through Dafe kharka (4000m.) watching many sceneries on the way. Overnight at Tented camp .
Day 8: Jungle adventure walk for Danaque (2300m. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 9:  Walking on the bank of the Marsyandi River, viewing the Amazing water falls on the way. Stay overnight at tented camp at Ghermu.
Day 10: Walk to Khudi. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 11: from Khudi Drive back to Kathmandu
Day 12: Transfer to Airport for Final departure

Equipment List

Following gives a general idea of the personal items to trek in Nepal. The personal items, in fact, are of individual interest, choice and luxury. Besides, the most important fact he/she must consider is the time of the year, trekking days, region and altitude.

We have compiled a recommended comprehensive list of necessities that will prepare you for an enjoyable trip. The following gives you a general idea of what to bring to Nepal including clothing, equipment & gear for trekking in Nepal.

1. Clothing

• Walking shoes:
• A pair of sandals
• A warm jacket. Fiber filled or down should be adequate.
• A rainproof jacket with a hood or a poncho.
• A nylon windbreaker and wind pants.
• Woolen shirts and thick sweaters.
• A pair of lightweight/ heavy weight trousers.
• A tracksuit could be useful for wearing when resting in teahouses.
• Hats: a woolen hat to wear in the morning and at night during winter and a sunhat that has a wide brim to cover the face and neck.
• A pair of gloves or mittens.
• Woolen socks. Stuff an extra pair in your bag just in case.

2. Equipment and Accessories

• A duffle bag, canvas or nylon, without a frame (for porters to carry gear).
• A daypack or rucksack for personal belonging for you to carry for the day e.g. toiletries, camera, tissue, soap, etc.
• A sleeping bag, warm to 20 degrees F, either down or fiber-filled.
• A water bottle.
• Snow glasses and sunglasses.
• 2-4 large plastic bags to separate clean clothes from dirty ones.
• Wallet and /or money belt with compartment for coins.
• Toiletries with large and small towels.
• Small headlamp and/ or flashlight with spare batteries.
• Snow gaiters essential during winter.
• An umbrella (optional), which is quite useful to as a sunshade and useful when it rains.
• Reading materials, camera and film, rechargeable batteries, note book, rubber band, pen and pencil, envelopes, a diary, a calendar, a pocket knife, a small pillow or headrest. Thermoses (optional)- an inflatable sleeping mat, trekking map, adequate quantities of passport photograph.
• Sun block cream
• 1 walking sticks / poles
• Emergency contact numbers / business cards

This list is only a guide. There are numerous options, brands, and versions of each piece of equipment. We suggest you use your experience and the recommended items above to find the best gear for you. Most of the above equipment & gear are available for sale or rent at shops around Kathmandu. However, most trekking equipment in Nepal is either used equipment that was sold by other trekkers or mountaineering expeditions or locally made reproductions of internationally known brands.
